Just over a year ago, the English designer Kim Jones was appointed as the creative director Dior menswear by LVMH and presented his first ever collection during Paris Men’s Fashion Week in June 2018. Prior to this, he was the menswear designer of Louis Vuitton for 7 years. During his time in Louis Vuitton he was known to merge his athletic aesthetics into luxury clothing. One of his most remarkable move in Louis Vuitton was making one of the most hyped over Supreme x Louis Vuitton collaboration happen.
Let us tell you how Kim Jones is changing the historical brand Dior. He was the man who officially mix street wear into luxury and we can still see him bringing leisurewear elements into Dior while keeping the essence of couture in his designs. He went on a complete different direction from the slim and minimalist code set by by Heidi Slimane which was also followed by Kris Van Assche.
In his designs, Kim Jones keep the heritage of the brand but also adapt to a current streetwear culture with collaborations like Alyx ,Kaws and Rimowa. By collaborating he is also giving a platform for younger brands to showcase their talent while keeping it exciting for the clients of Dior men. He does a good job connecting with a younger demographic with his forward thinking and the same time keeping his collections luxurious.
